For the month of
January
2010
I
hope that each of you had a very
Merry Christmas and Santa was
good to you. Now that the
holidays are over we will get
back to work with training and
normal activities starting
January 4. Unfortunately I will
be out of town with work but we
will still gather at station #1.
The community covered dish and
station dedication were a real
success and it sure seems a lot
of our community is very proud
of the progress and hard work we
have been doing.
Also a great big thanks to all
of those how worked so hard on
the ham and turkey sale. Much
sleep was lost by many of our
station 2 folks but it turned
out their efforts were worth it.
Santa did return to the BVFD in
the form of a FEMA Assistance to
Firefighters grant award. We
will be able to purchase some
new equipment for the 2 new
engines, some turnout gear and
training materials.
As
a reminder a lot of hard work
went into cleaning the station
for the Christmas event. It will
be each company’s responsibility
on a rotating basis to perform a
monthly cleaning. January will
be Company 1’s turn. You may
determine your own day for
cleaning, just coordinate with
Randy Smitherman on what needs
to be done. For now we are
scheduling Sat 1/16 @ 9am.
Everyone needs to pitch in on a
routine basis. If you see the
garbage cans full please take
steps to make sure they get
emptied. We have had a recent
bout with ants and other 4-
legged creatures and with cold
weather here we need to make
sure there are no food products
left around.
Mark your calendars for this
year’s recognition banquet. It
will be Saturday Feb 6 at Anna
Irving Hall. We will have very
special guests attending. Chief
Langer’s wife, Janet, will be
here from Mineola, NY along with
Timothy Lohan and his wife from
New Hope, PA. Tim is Chief
Langer’s nephew who went to bat
for us and helped us get the
white service truck from PA, the
rescue from Glen Cove, NY, and
Engine 162 from Mineola. We are
also hoping Brian Farrell from
the Terry Farrell Foundation who
made the actual donation of
Rescue 200 will also be here. I
recently heard that some of the
folks from United Communities FD
may also come. They donated the
brush truck, turnout gear, some
medical equipment and the K-12
saw.
Be Safe,
Spruce McRee, Chief |
